No it’s not a watercraft with really big wheels, it’s the latest event in triathlon circles to be added to the ITU Word Championships. Essentially it’s the same as the Standard distance, just without the run. It’s the swim then through transition 1 and onto the bike and finishing off when the athlete passes into transition 2.
Maybe you are suffering from an injury that requires non-impact activity, maybe you just don’t like to run or maybe you have another event on the horizon and don’t want to wear yourself out. With the addition of Aquabike to Callala Triathlon Festival you can now be part of the action.
The swim course takes you in Jervis Bay. The standard distance swim will start and finish on the beach adjacent the community hall car-park.
It is a two lap, rectangular swim course, the exact configuration may vary on the day due to conditions.
Athletes will commence the bike course at the Callala Beach Community Hall car-park. After exiting the water, athletes will run up the barricaded passageway and into the Transition Area. Athletes will push their own bicycle to the road way and commence the cycle let at the appropriate official start line marked on Quay Rd for the two lap bike course.
Cyclists will mount their bicycle on Quay Rd and head along Centre St then left onto Callala Beach Rd. Cyclists will continue west along Forest Rd to a turnaround point. At this point, cyclists will do a u-turn and return along the same route almost back to the transition area on Quay Road, before doing a second lap of the course, and finish back at the transition area.
