Port Macquarie Triathlon Club has a slightly different club philosophy to other triathlon clubs as our focus is primarily on introducing people to the sport of triathlon, and providing a family friendly location for racing.  While we have many members who are very competitive on the national and international stage, we don’t offer specific coaching for our elite members but concentrate more on getting new people into the sport.

 

We do have a number of qualified and experienced triathlon / fitness coaches in our membership, and we encourage our members to talk with those coaches if they want to take their skills to the next level.  However, the Club doesn’t currently run any specific training or coaching programs for our members.  Rather, we concentrate on holding introductory triathlon sessions, and do the hard yards in gaining the necessary sanctioning and approvals so we can stage over a dozen annual races within our inner-city location at Port Macquarie.

 

The Port Mac Tri Club is based at McInherney Park beside the Hastings River in Port Macquarie and is located about 2km west of the town centre.  Our swim course is located near the turn-around point on the Port Mac Ironman course.  The local club course features a flat river/canal swim in open water, and flat roads/paths for our bike and run courses.  We run a sprint distance every 2-3 weeks during an 8-month summer season, and offer a half distance option for beginners to have a go at the sport.  We also stage a 3-race duathlon series during the down period of the winter months.

 

Juniors are always encouraged, as are our more “mature” members.  We have members ranging in age from 10 yrs up to 70 yrs in age, even including some competitors who raced in the 80yrs+ category in season’s past.  Many of our juniors have gone onto success in ITU, All Schools, and the professional circuit.  However, we are just as proud of our newbies who come along and get their feet wet at our annual Women’s Only race, or to our season opening “Come n Tri” race in early October.  And we especially love those members who come away to party with us at national events such as those run by Elite Energy!
