Course Maps

As per the 23km race, you head upwards at the start, over Mt Scanzi and head steeply down to Duffys corner. Turning left here, winding down towards the gorgeous Bugong Creek Crossing (may get wet feet, depending on water levels!), and along the dirt Bugong Road in it’s entirety, before heading off to the right and down the escarpment and along some beautiful verdant upper Shoalhaven River land, before climbing sharply back out of there. Lots of beautiful sandstone to admire along the way. Once at the top, you have a lovely gentle downhill before rejoining Bugong Road to head back the way you came, with of course the spectre of Mt Scanzi rising to greet you. Once you have reached the Mt Scanzi saddle, you will test the quads on the downhill to the finish. 1005m of elevation gain.

Aid Stations: 40km runners will pass an aid station at the following points: 4km, 11km, 19km, 29km and 36km.

Schedule

With the weather set to be a scorcher, the team have prepared some safety information for athletes:
🧢 Wear sunscreen and a hat! With lots of bushfire damaged trees there may not be much cover.
💧 Bring plenty of water with you. There are up to 8 aid stations on course (depending which distance you are racing) where you can top up too.
🛑 If you are in need of assistance, please stop off at an aid station and wait for help, don’t keep pushing ahead.
📶 Don’t rely on your phone reception, it’s hit and miss out on course. To be safe download the Emergency Plus app which works on SOS mode.
🥵 Please race to the conditions, temperatures in the high 30s aren’t the time to be pushing for a PB!
🏃🏼‍♂️ If you choose to drop down to a shorter distance, we’re happy for you to do that on the day. Just come and see us at the rego tent during your original scheduled rego time.

MANDATORY GEAR

As the Bugong National Park is an isolated area, it is important that competitors are equipped with basic equipment to help in case of an emergency.

Here is our MANDATORY gear list for the 40km run:

  • Capacity for 1.5L water
  • Space blanket
  • Whistle
  • Compression bandage (for snake bite)
  • Mobile phone (we recommend downloading an app called Emergency+ beforehand)
  • Your own race nutrition, as the aid stations are Powerade/Water/Coke syrup only. YOU NEED TO BE SELF SUFFICIENT WITH RACE FOOD.
  • Emergency snack above and beyond your nutritional requirements

If the weather is bad we recommend packing additional items:

  • Rain jacket – needs to be waterproof, not water-resistant

The decision will be made regarding the bad weather gear on Friday prior to the event at 5pm, and it will be posted on social media as well as posted up around the event site.
