Course Descriptions:
The event will consist of a 2km ocean swim commencing and finishing at Main Beach Forster, a 60km bike leg and a 15km run leg.
Swim
The 2km swim course will consist of two laps of a 1km rectangular course.
The course layout will be set on the day according to the sea and weather
conditions.
Bike
The bike leg will be two laps of a 30km course that will take competitors
from the transition area in North St, right onto West St and then left onto
Head St. The competitors continue along Head St until they reach the Macintosh
St intersection at which point they will turn right onto Macintosh St. Competitors
will travel south on Macintosh St and continue onto The Lakes Way until they
reach the first turnaround point at Tiona. At this point they will do a U
turn and head north back towards Forster and onto Macintosh St. At the Macintosh
St / Head St intersection competitors will turn left onto Head St and continue
up to the next turnaround point just west of the Head St / Beach St roundabout.
At this point competitors will complete another U turn and head east along
Head St past the Head St / West St intersection for the completion of the
first of two laps. The following lap is along the same route as the first
lap. On completion the their second lap, competitors will turn left off Head
St onto West St and then left onto North St for return to the transition area.
At this point competitors will dismount from their bikes, stow their bikes
and commence the run leg.
Run
The run leg will be two laps of a 7.5km course (total 15km) and will commence
at transition area from where the competitors will head north along the path
that runs around the front of the Headland and past the Coastal Patrol HQ. From
here competitors will run along the footpath/edge of the Marina Rd, until they
reach the reserve at the western end of Marina Rd. From here competitors run
onto the footpath and then onto the bridge footpath heading towards Tuncurry.
At the Tuncurry end of the bridge, competitors follow the path around to the
right onto John Wright Park. At the northern end of John Wright Park, competitors
will cross Ray St and continue north up Loeamato Cl and then follow the footpath
that leads to Rockpool Rd. Then turn right on footpath after the kiosk, staying on
footpath and turning right again following it past the aid station and along
the same course back to the transition area at Main Beach Forster. Competitors then
run southeast along North St, at the end of which they will run onto and along
the bush track and walking path that head towards Bennett Head Reserve until
they reach the turnaround point where they turnaround and head back along the
same course to North St except for when competitors near the bush track, they
will veer left, run towards and then along the footpath on the eastern edge of
Head St, turning right up the path at the Head St / Macintosh St intersection
then left onto North St. On North St, competitors will run to the transition
area where they will commence their second lap over the same route as the first
lap. On completion of their second lap, competitors will veer right on North
St and run up the finish Shute and through the finish arch to complete the event.
